Nijmegen, February 22th, 1944: ‘by accident’ a squadron of American bombers attacks the Dutch city of Nijmegen, located close to the German border. 800 civilians were killed.
In the decades after nobody talked about the horrible event. Only since the beginning of this century survivors can participate in an annual memorial.
My intention with this project was to honor the victims and survivors who lost loved ones but have never been able to process their grief. By mentally returning to the moment of the disaster together, I wanted to show how they still have to deal with their trauma.
